C1 Green Chemicals AG, one of the startups nurtured by Humboldt University’s entrepreneurship program, has secured €20 million in funding to commercialize its innovative green methanol technology.
Green methanol has the potential to replace fossil fuels in shipping, aviation, and chemical production, reducing dependency on imports and advancing decarbonization.
Funding Breakdown:
- €15M from investors, including denkapparat (Think-Cell founders), Planet A Ventures, Maersk Growth, and prominent industry leaders.
- €5M in research grants.
Next Steps: Construction of a demonstration plant begins in 2025, utilizing homogeneous catalysis—a more efficient and sustainable method than conventional approaches. C1 is attracting top talent from industry giants like Linde, BASF, and Tesla to accelerate the green transition in chemicals.
Background: C1 develops climate-friendly production processes using quantum simulations and closed carbon cycles.
