Mondrian Maps is a mobile location-based service. By visualizing the subjective experiences of users on a map, public space is enriched with meaning. In contrast to other evaluation systems, the entire range of human emotions can be represented. From enthusiasm to depression, from stress to relaxation. The input takes place within seconds and the aggregation of the data results in a beautiful colourful "affective heat map", which gives value to objects and extended areas.

In order to be able to orientate oneself in public space, one must know not only the location but also the meaning of the objects there as well as extended areas. Traditional location-based services only display the locations of objects (e.g. Google Maps) and/or an evaluation of objects in the form of long texts or primitive "like's" (e.g. Qype). In contrast, Mondrian Maps can be used to represent the full range of emotional experiences, from enthusiasm to depression and from stress to relaxation. Every possible emotion that someone has in relation to an object is assigned to a colour on an online map. Algorithms aggregate the data about all users. The result is an attractive "affective heat map".  At high zoom levels the collective emotions become visible over objects and at low zoom levels the collective emotions become visible over extended areas. In order to share experiences, no lengthy user interaction distracting from "real" life is necessary: Users can enter their feelings in seconds. These are then automatically linked to your GPS data. Finally, the individual contributions as well as the aggregations are organized according to meaningful categories such as "nightlife", "food", "archiecture", "shopping" or "events" etc.
