Urban gardening is a new trend in the constantly growing cities. Special requirements for preparations that can be used for growing crops in urban areas are met by all product lines (e.g. no odour nuisance, chemical-free gardening, etc.) Allotment gardeners are also a group that is increasingly switching to organic cultivation. The production of flower food impressively shows the way of eco-efficient recycling of waste materials. GreenLab Berlin has developed an effective new product from the waste materials of the food industry, the production of which does not generate any further waste. The solid residues left over from the production of the liquid fertilizer Flower Food are still completely processed and marketed as solid fertilizer for gardening applications (Pimp my Gärtchen). The biological cycle for consumer goods is thus closed.
In the production chain described above, the problem of disposing of waste is made superfluous. A near-natural production line is created which conserves resources and produces no further waste. The "Cradle to Cradle" concept, conceived by Michael Braungart and William McDonough, is being implemented to perfection at Blümchenfutter. The idea for this is the result of the growing environmental awareness of recent decades. In the past, the recycling idea has often led to a reduction in the value of the source materials, the so-called "downcycling". Flower food is the result of a successful "upcycling" process. It leads to a system in which the material extends its life span with full usability and at the same time increases its value - a wonderful showpiece of a sustainable idea.
