The goal of factorize.bio is to advance the understanding of how proteins work at the molecular level. With 20 years of combined expertise and pioneering research in protein science and machine learning, the team develops biophysics-based AI algorithms that break down proteins into their functional subunits at single amino acid resolution. Based on generative protein language models, their technology can be applied to all known and de-novo designed proteins. This will enable the discovery of novel drug target sites in human disease proteins as well as the targeted engineering of protein properties for a variety of industrial applications.
Jörn had the idea for the project in the summer of 2022, inspired by his last research project as a postdoc, which was published in Nature. In December 2022, the two founders then decided together to develop the project idea into a startup.
