Science & Startups among Top 20 of Europe's leading Start-up Hubs

Startup Hubs Ranking Financial Times 2025

In the renowned ranking "Europe’s Leading Start-Up Hubs," "Science & Startups" was awarded 19th place as one of the TOP 20 best start-up hubs in Europe by Statista, the Financial Times, and its sister publication Sifted!

As the joint startup service of the Berlin University Alliance, Science & Startups provides a space where groundbreaking research and innovations give rise to successful startups.

The high ranking among a total of 150 hubs is a special achievement, as it is largely based on alumni surveys and evaluations. In addition, assessments from external experts such as investors, entrepreneurs, and scientists were included in the ranking.

Germany’s UnternehmerTUM leads the ranking for the second consecutive time. The non-profit organization offers a variety of programs that help start-ups grow into mature companies.

A total of 19 hubs from Germany are featured in the ranking, but the UK leads the distribution with 29 hubs, most of which are based in London. Spain and Portugal together have 24 hubs listed, with two even making it into the Top 20.

The ranking shows: Germany and Berlin have nothing to hide! With such a large proportion of alumni evaluations, the ranking paints a realistic and highly positive picture of the Berlin start-up hub Science & Startups. It highlights the immense dedication and expertise of the startup consultants at Science & Startups and is thus a special recognition of their work.

According to Prof. Dr. Günter M. Ziegler, President of Freie Universität Berlin and spokesperson for the Berlin University Alliance, the ranking underscores the innovative strength of the Berlin University Alliance. He also noted that Science & Startups is a strategic tool for further developing Berlin’s research areas into an integrated innovation field.

Science & Startups aims to become one of Europe’s leading startup ecosystems by 2030 and is expanding its strategic partnerships, including UNITE, the new innovation and startup center for the Berlin-Brandenburg region.

Berlin remains one of the most dynamic hotspots for startups in Europe, and Science & Startups is helping to make this location even more attractive.
