Humboldt-Innovation GmbH, the innovation company of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, is opening a new office in Munich on June 4, 2025.

Berlin, Munich – June 4, 2025

Bavaria, with its hotspot Munich, is a leading deep tech location with excellent research institutions, a strong SME sector, and international corporations. To better connect the economic and innovative power of Bavaria and Munich with the talent, research, innovations, and startups of the capital region, Humboldt-Innovation is opening an office on Balanstrasse in Munich—right next door to its strategic partner, Start2Group.

“With our new branch in Bavaria, we are placing a clear focus on engaging investors to expand our national network and significantly strengthen collaborations between science and industry—particularly in applied research, continuing education, and entrepreneurship. Our Munich office can also be used by additional partners from the capital region to initiate projects. With Start2Group, we have a strong national partner at our side, who also supports us in internationalization,” says Volker Hofmann, Managing Director of Humboldt-Innovation.

The new Munich office will be led by Oliver Hasse, who has also been appointed Deputy Managing Director of Humboldt-Innovation GmbH. He brings extensive experience in innovation strategy, financing, and the support of science-based startups, most recently as Managing Director of the INAM network. Hasse emphasizes: “Opening a location in Munich is not just an expansion of Humboldt-Innovation—we are consciously sending a signal: to strengthen innovation and technology transfer in Germany and Europe, we need less competition and more collaboration between ecosystems.”

As part of the official opening, Humboldt-Innovation GmbH, together with Start2Group, will host the “AI Startup Challenge.” This competition targets startups in the field of artificial intelligence and offers five teams the opportunity to pitch their business ideas to a high-profile jury. The “AI Startup Challenge” not only marks the beginning of the Munich branch, but also the start of a close collaboration between the innovation ecosystems of Berlin and Munich.
