60 Seconds Science: Philosophy of mind

As an expert in his field, Prof Dr Michael Pauen researches the philosophy of the mind with regard to digital technologies and explores the question of what makes us humans intelligent and able to cooperate and to what extent artificial intelligence changes our social skills.

Understanding intelligence is one of the great scientific challenges of our time. Despite intensive research in various disciplines, our understanding of intelligence remains fragmentary and incomplete. the proposed Cluster of Excellence ‘Science of Intelligence (SCIoI)’ will contribute significantly to a better understanding of intelligence as a whole. To this end, existing findings from various disciplines of intelligence research will be brought together. At the same time, SCIoI will provide the disciplines with valuable new research impulses. The research results will also be used to create new intelligent technologies that can be used for the benefit of society in a wide range of areas. This goal is to be achieved with the help of a synthetic approach in which all theories, findings, concepts and methods must be incorporated into technological artefacts, such as robots or computer programs. More information about the Cluster of Excellence ‘Science of Intelligence (SCIoI)’ can be found here.
