Great news from Noreja, a spinoff of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU) and the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU): In April 2026, the startup closed its latest funding round with €1.1 million!

The group of investors includes both existing and new partners: Markus Neumayr (formerly Ramsauer & Stürmer/Aptean Austria), serial angel Jan Sprengnetter (20+ investments, exit of Sprengnetter GmbH), Prof. Martin Kaiser (vanagon.vc, abtis AG), and Gordana McNamara (who will join as Fractional CCO).

Noreja Intelligence GmbH was founded in Vienna in 2021 by computer scientists Dr. Lukas Pfahlsberger, Dr. Philipp Waibel, and Prof. Dr. Jan Mendling, and is now based in Vorarlberg, Austria. All founders maintain close ties to the HU and/or WU through doctorates or professorships. Since 2021, for example, Jan Mendling has been the Einstein Professor for Process Science at the Institute of Computer Science at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, and as of this year, he is also an Adjunct Professor at the Vienna University of Economics and Business.

A Unique Platform for Business Process Optimization
Noreja's business model is based on a unique platform that enables entrepreneurs to monitor processes in real time, uncover inefficiencies, and take corrective action early. The tool accesses operational data from Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, which is then processed using Process Mining and Artificial Intelligence. AI agents independently perform optimization tasks—a concept known as Generative Process Intelligence. The platform helps companies achieve lower process costs, faster workflows, improved liquidity, and increased transparency and adaptability.

The founders plan to use the newly acquired capital for further product development:

"The successful closing of this funding round creates the foundation for Noreja's next growth phase. Together with our investors and partners, we aim to further develop our product and establish Noreja as one of the leading platforms in the field of Generative Process Intelligence."

Noreja stands out from the competition with its proprietary approach of "Generative Process Intelligence": Knowledge Graphs provide AI agents with the process context that Large Language Models (LLMs) alone still lack today. This allows Noreja to leverage AI in a way that delivers genuine value to companies. According to Prof. Dr. Jan Mendling, AI requires a deep understanding of the underlying process context. Noreja provides exactly these contextual structures, making business processes systematically understandable for AI. As a result, information and insights can be utilized effectively across a wide range of process-related use cases.
