Green technologies and sustainable development

Kazakh scientists at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin – exchange, innovation and international cooperation

As part of the international funding programme ‘Green Technologies and Sustainable Development’, 27 scientists and lecturers from leading Kazakh universities are currently completing a research and qualification programme lasting several months in Germany, including at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

During their six- to eleven-month stay, they are deepening their knowledge of green technologies, sustainable development and modern digital methods – topics that are among the most important fields of the future worldwide. Germany is considered a pioneer in many areas, such as renewable energies, which already account for around 60% of its electricity.

The programme combines theory and practice: the scientists visit companies and research institutions that use renewable energies or operate entirely sustainably, including an autonomous village. In addition, they have access to seminars, lectures and laboratory visits at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, the Technische Universität and the Freie Universität zu Berlin. There is a particular focus on digital technologies and artificial intelligence.

The internship also offers the opportunity to establish international research contacts, conduct comparative studies between Germany and Kazakhstan, and later pass on the knowledge acquired to their own institutions – for example, in the form of articles, teaching materials or new projects.

A video shows how Kazakh researchers experience their stay and how international cooperation makes knowledge transfer tangible.
