Diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorders in adulthood

Autism spectrum disorders are becoming increasingly significant in the provision of psychotherapeutic care for adults. Nevertheless, there is often uncertainty regarding diagnosis and psychotherapeutic support. This compact workshop provides an overview of the diagnostic criteria and methods of (differential) diagnosis in adults and introduces cognitive-behavioural therapy approaches for adults on the autism spectrum.

Participants will be made aware of the experiences and behaviours associated with autism and will receive practical guidance on how to carry out diagnosis and therapy competently. The workshop will also address the treatment preferences of people on the autism spectrum, as well as specific aspects of the therapeutic relationship. This compact workshop is aimed at participants with and without prior experience and is designed to encourage them to begin working with adults on the autism spectrum who do not have an accompanying intellectual disability in their own practice.
