Reference Projects

Humboldt-Innovation has already successfully implemented over 2,500 projects. You can find a small selection here.

SGM Solutions & Global Media GmbH

The market for individual computer-based training opportunities has grown strongly in recent years - not only in terms of learning software, but also authoring systems. They are the focus of the joint research work of the Berlin-based company "SGM Solutions & Global Media GmbH" and the research group "Computer Science Education / Computer Science and Society" (CSES) of the Institute of Computer Science at the Humboldt University of Berlin. From 2014 to 2016, an eLearning authoring software from SGM Solutions & Global Media GmbH was analyzed for usability in the research transfer projects. Thereby, possibilities for additions to this platform regarding interactive learning components could be identified and implemented. The Investitionsbank Berlin-Brandenburg has distinguished itself as a sponsor.

WWF Germany

In the 1920s the bison was one of the species acutely threatened with extinction. In 1927, the last free-living bison in the Caucasus was shot. All the bisons living today are descended from only twelve animals kept in zoos and animal enclosures. Even today, the species remains endangered, as all currently existing herds are too small and spatially isolated to ensure the preservation of the species in the medium and long term. The study to identify areas for the reintroduction of bison has investigated suitable habitats for bison in Germany in order to promote the re-introduction of the largest land mammals in Europe. Particularly promising areas can be found in eastern Germany, north and south of Berlin, but also in some low mountain ranges in western Germany.

Hewlett - Packard Development Company, L. P.

The HP Innovation Research Awards presented in 2009 and 2010 led to an intensive cooperation between the Databases and Information Systems Department of the Humboldt University of Berlin (head of Prof. J.C. Freytag, Ph.D.) and the HP Research Group (Malu Castellanos, Ph.D.) in the area of Information Management (headed by Meichun Hsu, Ph.D.) at HP Labs in Palo Alto. This cooperation quickly evolved from the general topic of cloud and database systems to a fruitful exchange of research ideas - including research stays - in the area of streaming systems to process and analyze data in real time.

Accor Hospitality Germany GmbH

Accor Hospitality Germany GmbH and the Chair of Psychological Diagnostics at the Humboldt University of Berlin (Director: Prof. Matthias Ziegler) have already conducted various research projects, including the optimization of personnel management instruments. One of the projects was concerned with the development of competence models for the large number of different job profiles in hotels of different standards.

Sentientic GmbH

In the world of online marketing, the return on investment (ROI) for marketing activities is an important indicator. The ROI describes the relationship between investment and profit and shows how successful certain activities are for a company's marketing. An analytics tool such as Google Analytics enables the calculation of the marketing ROI for a specific channel. Although a large number of marketing channels and data types already exist, there is no standardized procedure for measuring the impact of these activities. The data science company Sentientic GmbH is therefore investigating the structuring of procedures that help in the ROI calculation of the three online marketing activities, search advertising, search engine optimization and social media advertising. The study is to include a deepening into the advanced functions of Google Analytics as a data collection tool.

Federal Anti-Discrimination Agency

In a diverse society like Germany's, openness and recognition in many cases also face exclusion and discrimination. The Berlin Institute for Empirical Integration and Migration Research developed a survey on behalf of the federal anti-discrimination office in which people were asked to describe their experiences of discrimination over the past two years. The aim of the study is to make experiences of discrimination and its consequences comprehensively and fundamentally visible in all areas of life. Within three months, more than 18,000 people took part in the survey, thus enabling differentiated insights into the effects of discrimination.

Berliner Stadtreinigung und Verbund

In public spaces, waste and pollution have a considerable impact on people's quality of life. Significant amounts of waste are increasingly costing cities and thus society as a whole constantly more. Since 2004, the project team of the Institute of Psychology at the Humboldt University of Berlin (project leader: Birgit Nimke-Sliwinski) has been investigating how the cleaning strategies of city cleaning companies can be optimized. Under the direction of Prof. Dr. Elke van der Meer, PD Dr. Reinhard Beyer and Dr. Rebekka Gerlach, the latest project study deals with the "littering behaviour", which describes the irregular disposal of waste in public spaces. With the help of questionnaires as well as experimental sorting techniques and psychophysiological measuring methods, causes and prevention possibilities are determined.
